Thank You Ma’am by Langston Hughes

The theme in the short story, Thank You Ma’am, is that learning from your mistakes, makes you a better person. In this story, a homeless teenager named Roger tried pick pocketing a large woman named Luella. After failing at his attempt, Luella brings the boy home and teaches him a lesson. She took care of him, fed him and let him wash himself, which is an extreme act of kindness. Luella told Roger about the lessons she had learnt about being a criminal. After Roger met up with Luella, he learnt that stealing and other criminal acts will get him nowhere. Therefore, he has learnt from his mistake. Even Luella herself has a dark past. But now after knowing the results, she has turned out to be a kind, helpful lady. Many people learn from mistake and try not to do them again, because they know what the results will be. Mistakes are worth making because they teach more than getting everything right.

Another example of mistakes making you a better person is in the music video "Things That Rhyme With Orange" By I Set My Friends On Fire (ISMFOF). The Music video is about a bond between a teen and an orange monster. The story began with Murph (the teen) having a stroll with his girlfriend. While on a trail they met up with two jerks who began disturbing them both. And as they were being bullied around, the orange monster came to help. After scaring the bullies away, Murph and the monster turned out to become friends. A few weeks later, while chatting with his other friends, the monster dropped his phone. Murph was just passing by while he saw the phone drop. While Murph was about to give the phone back, he saw a text by his girlfriend to the monster saying "LOL Tonight's Going 2 Be Fun :)". Murph took this as though the monster was trying to steal his girlfriend. After taking his anger out to who was his best friend, Murph took some time to ease his mind and think. As time pasts, he returns to his apartment only to be greeted by surprise birthday party. Murph remembered the text and finally realizes what he has done wrong. He took his time to apologize to the monster and made up. After the incident, Murph wouldn't be so decisive anymore.

Mistakes happen all the time, they turn you into a better person. Although mistakes aren't always easy to solve, they help someone avoid what they have done wrong. In conclusion, the theme learning from your mistakes is a large lesson in both life, literacy and much more.

Betrayal Can Lead To Vengeance

A very important theme in Lamb to the Slaughter is betrayal can lead to vengeance. Mary Maloney was the perfect housewife, she would clean everything, make food for her husband, try her best to please society and people around her. And never get tired. However, all that changed when her husband wanted a divorce. She was absolutely destroyed. The thoughts of her being alone and useless made her crack, to top it all, she was pregnant. Mary then plans vengeance against her husband for making her feel unwanted and for leaving her. Even after all that she had done for him. Mary kills Patrick Maloney (her husband) with a leg of a lamb which was meant for dinner. Realizing what she had done, Mary knows that her life can never be the same. Patrick's betrayal lead to Mary's vengeance.

Another example of betrayal is in the lyrics of When I'm Gone by Eminem, telling a true story of Marshall's conflict between his family and the life of a star. Before going on tour, Marshall describes what her daughter did to stop him from going on it. But Marshall was determined to go, he needed the money to support the family. But from Hailie's (Eldest daughter) point of view, he himself being home is more important than his money. Marshall had to tell a lie by telling Hailie that he won't leave anymore. He had to go, he had no choice. At one of the concerts, Marshall was disturbed by the visions of him betraying his family. He visualized Hailie being around him telling him about his promise and how he broke it. In guilt, Marshall raced back to his home cancelling his last concert in Sweden. Reaching home, Marshall quickly apologized and broke in tears. After fully getting everything settled, he has been trying to always put family first. He learnt his lesson.

Betrayal is one of those things that affect your karma. In every story, movie, song, etc. I know of involving betrayal, the one who betrays is the one who always gets hurt. Betrayal is an extremely big theme, almost in any form of media and writing. Betrayal is always bad, because your just betraying yourself. What goes around comes around basically.
